Death

“Death”, one of the world’s scariest words, has appeared in Act 3 Scene 3, diverting the entire play into a dark atmosphere. The appearance of “death” foreshadows the suicide of Romeo, the impulsive and extreme boy who regard his life as nothing in front of love. When Friar Lawrence comforts Romeo that banishment is “a gentler judgement(3.3 11), Romeo stats that “calling death ‘banished’, thou cutt’st my head off with a golden ax and smilest apron the stroke that murders me(3.3 22).” After an accident happens, the first thing Romeo could think about is death, rather than solutions for the problem. He is controlled by his emotion and losses his mind of thinking. Therefore, it is not hard for audience to understand why he kills himself immediately and causes the tragedy. However, the word death also show how solid the love is between Romeo and Juliet. They would rather die if they could not live with each others, which really demonstrate the vow on the wedding that “only death could separate us”. Not only Romeo, Juliet is also impetuous and straightforward that death seems to be the only solution for the problem. Therefore, the appearance of “death” foreshadows the world’s most horrible tragedy that they both kill themselves in a rush, in stead of waiting or thinking for a while. They are the death of themselves.

Chain Reaction

Among all emotions, anger is the flake that ignites the gradually accumulated emotions such as sadness, disappointment or resentment. No one could easily control a set of fire, which could suddenly burn an entire house. A series of reaction would easily burns out insintricly in a second until our brain finally realize what's going on. 

All my memory of anger, in my lucid life, was about playing the piano and studying math. Although I finally got rid of the “annoying piano”, which I tend to enjoy now, my fight with math will never have an end. When I was in grade 8, math became incredibly difficult (a lot harder than pre-calculus). In order to help me get better grade, my irritable dad decided to tutor me in his own way, which I could hardly understand. I finally got mad on a Thursday night, which was already 11 O’clock and I just could not figure out the answer of a quadratic function problem. I suddenly stood up, threw away my pencil and started crying. In the next second, my father slapped me on my face. I could not remember how that day ended, but I just refused to talk with my dad and gave up studying math for a month. The test grade came out to be awful, and I started to wondering what to do.

Obviously I have got over this problem and became a math genius now; my father, to my surprise, gradually turns to be a patient and amiable man. Sometimes I am thinking that if we could communicate more when I was young,if we could both be more patience and understood each other more, I might become the world-best mathematician in the future.

The Catalyst of Tears.

How many times can you accept a tragedy if you already know it would happen? How many times can you bear to see a person die in the same stupid way? How many times can you prevent yourself from shouting out “Don’t do that!” when you know a certain action would lead to a horrible ending? How many times can you control yourself not to cry when the softest part of your heart is hurt? My answer is simple; my answer is “zero”. I cannot stand those situation above at all. Therefore, I have been tormented for ninety minutes before I start to write this blog post. I know that you might ask me why there are only ninety minutes since every ROMEO AND JULIET film tries to match the original play, which is approximately two hours. The answer is still simple: I did not want to watch the last thirty minutes and push myself into a state of insane.

The deepest impression always comes from the first time. This statement is totally true and works on myself well. Therefore, the ninety minutes’ experience becomes a “compare and contrast debate”. According to the omnipotent Internet, the executioner who nearly drives me crazy “is a 2013 British-Italian-Swiss romantic drama film adaptation of William Shakespeare's romantic tragedy of the same name directed by Carlo Carlei( https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romeo_%26_Juliet_(2013_film).” This film edits many of the dialogues, especially cutting Romeo’s ornament language which makes my time a little bit easier. The setting was exactly in old Verona, happening in the same time period of the original play. On the contrary, my first love is an energetic pop singer who stands under the sunshine of LA, confidently speaks Shakespeare’s strange language with his handsome face and hot body. 

Despite the extent which I am infatuated with my first love, I am attracted by a very specific person in the 2013 version. Don’t guess that my favorite character would be Romeo or Juliet! Look at Leonardo DiCaprio’s face, and you’ll understand that there won’t be any better Romeo in the world. The price of “The Most Moving Character” goes to Juliet’s Nurse. I bet that I will never forget her eyes, which could speak, could express care and could reflect a shadow of mother. In this film, I feel that Nurse is the person who loves Juliet the most. She conveys all her emotions exaggeratedly: When Juliet laugh, she laughs louder and kisses her at the forehead; when Juliet cries, she becomes more sad and hugs her for supporting; when she sees Juliet and Romeo kissing, she turns away with a titter. The Nurse wants Juliet to find true love, and is willing to help her in every situation, even speaks against her master to protect Juliet. Her lively actions make the film a lot more vivid.

In conclusion, although this film is not not my favorite, I have met the best Nurse ever. My tears suddenly crush out when she moves her small body in front of Capulet, and asks him not to shout at Juliet. If you want to see an original version of ROMEO AND JULIET, you should watch the most professional play; if you want to see best actors and most moving scene, you should watch the 1996 version(which is my favorite). The sun of my mountain.

If you are asked to depict the play ROMEO AND JULIET within one word, what profound vocabulary would you like to pick from the dictionary? As for me, the first volunteer jumps out from my brain is “mountain”. In the full sense of the word “mountain”, there should be lands a lot higher than flats; there should be cliffs a lot more dangerous than stairs; there should be fog a lot heavier than that in cities. Nevertheless, there are also forests providing residence for fairies; there are rivers singing songs of happiness; furthermore, there are high peaks reaching the bright, fantastic sun. You can find all these features of mountains in this play, which I will explain little by little. Although climbing the mountain is tough in many ways, I still appreciate the precious experience, which makes me admire, makes me laugh and makes me think deeply.

To start with, it is acknowledged that no matter old or young, cynical or secular, silent or outgoing, every woman would not be able to refuse Romeo’s confession of love in Act 2 Scene 2. In fact, despite the “resentment” I have for the old English and the way Romeo speaks, which are high lands and dangerous cliffs needed to be cross over, I would immediately fall in love with Romeo, who expresses his love straightly and romantically. The peck of the speech, in my opinion, is when Romeo says:”It is the east, and Juliet is the sun(2.2 3).” Not only the “moon(2.2 4)” that Romeo mentions is jealous, even me envious Juliet when reading Romeo’s confession. Juliet must be the happiest woman in the world, who has a lover regards her as the brightest, the most important thing in the world. 

Since Juliet is in fact a young girl, many of her behavior and language are cute and innocent which attract me more than any other description of her. After sending the Nurse to Romeo, Juliet become nervous and diffident, not as calm like a princess as usual: “In half an hour she promised to return. Perchance she cannot meet him. That’s not so(2.5 2).” In this scene, Juliet is murmuring all the time, worrying about what happens to Nurse and Romeo. This behavior is exactly what people do when falling in love with others. It is clear that when you fall in love with some one, you will lose the ability to control your emotion. Juliet’s behavior suggests that she wholeheartedly loves Romeo and cannot help thinking about him. 

Can you match the features of mountains with the play ROMEO AND JULIET now? Let’s see if you are doing correctly. The high lands are the old English; the cliffs are the indirect way those characters uses to speak; the fog, as you can see, is the mysterious plot that leads our emotions all the time. The fairies, clearly, are those characters with various traits; the songs of happiness represent youth, innocent and friendship which occur through the entire play. Last but not least, the high peaks are representations of love, which could get over death, pass through evil and light up the world.
